Sport Days

Room 1 went to Badminton. Sounds fun doesn't it? Here's the problem though - the time we have to leave is......... 9:00 am on the dot, aaaaargh! This is on Mondays as well! Only imagine waking up late and not going to badminton. That would be sad. Oh yes, the title states 'Days' so I must talk about Tuesday. On that very special day was (drum roll please) Hockey! Which is not that exciting if you think about it. (Sorry fans of hockey, I'm just not a huge fan myself.) The hockey is held and taught at a better place though..School! Yay! So we just walk to the netball court.

Hmmm, I'm going back to Badminton. Everyone had to see how many hits in a row they could do. Some were around 30. But mine was six, I could never line it up straight. I was really bad, I hit the shuttle too hard. When I was doing hockey I could never twist the stick from one hand to another. I found it a little hard. Oh well. Here is a slideshow. Hope you enjoy: Sport time! .........on PhotoPeach

My audit for Student blogging challenge Week 10

Well, this is an audit, so I am going to start with how many posts of the Student blogging challenge I have published.

  • How many posts did you write?
  • If I look at my blog (including this post) it is 7 overall. (That is how many blogging challenges I have done.)

  • How many were school based, your own interests or set by the challenge?
  • Since September I have published 9 blogs and most of them are the blogging challenge. The other two were School based.

  • How many comments did you receive from classmates, teachers or overseas students?
  • For the comments on all of my posts, I have received 14 comments from other people around the world since September (some are on Photopeach). Most of them are either from Miss. W or some random people who call themselves '4getfulfamily'.

  • Which post received the most comments? Why do you think that happened?
  • My post "A week in the life of..." got the most comments. I made a slide show about what's it like at my school for a week or what you can do there. Most people probably enjoyed the picture of what you look like (which is actually me) on a Saturday morning after a busy week at Carlton.

  • Which post did you enjoy writing the most and why?
  • I enjoyed "A week in the life of....." most because I found the tool / app called photopeach and decided to make a slide show about what you can do at Carlton School.

  • Did you change blog themes at all and why?
  •  I did not change my background at all. The book shelf make it look quite neat and tidy.

  • How many widgets do you have? Do you think this is too many or not enough?
  • For my widgets I only have 2 you don't want too widgets it may distract people from reading your blog.
  • How many overseas students do you have on your blogroll?
  •  I don't have a blog roll but I might add it to my side bar sometime soon.

That is my audit for the student blogging challenge. I hope to continue in this challenge next year.

My most favourite blog ever!

I have decided to nominate Jannat's "Most Amazing Blog Ever". The posts come up very quickly after they have been announced or once she has been told to write the blog. There is only one widget and it is the student blogging sticker so there are no distributions while you are reading her blog(s). She is really descriptive in her posts and writes a good paragraph or two about the focus topic. She uses a range of different apps/tools to present the post. She uses a lot of different adjectives and nouns in her posts. Jannat's background is a simple colour (turquoise) but it looks neat and tidy with the colour. She also shows photographic images on most of the posts. I hope you enjoy her blog as much as I have.

The Flood!

Lately, in my home town Wanganui, there has been some very heavy rainfall. On the 15th of October the flood started. It was only minor at first, but soon sandbags were needed, A LOT of sandbags! The army came to help lay the sandbags out all night long. The flood has over-run the city's beloved Kowhai park, but before the flood the sewer shut it down. The flood rose to 9 metres, up to the foot path near the river. Now Anzac Parade from the Dublin Street bridge are closed off, so now people are waiting a while to get home. 120 Homes were evacuated due to the flooding. Around 50 businesses were unable to go back to their properties.

Will we ever learn? (#13stubc)

                                                               Human Rights

Human rights.... I have been asked to explain why Article 1 is wrong. "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood." REALLY? Can't you people see what's happening in Syria or Somalia? Due to war, kids are lying flat on their backs whining for food or a warm home, it's the only thing they can do. Yet I'm at home with a full tummy and warmth thought out my body. Hang on, doesn't that contradict Article one?

After World War 2 you would have thought the world would have learnt...... But we have continued to have wars (Vietnam, Afghanistan and Syria) fighting for who knows what? Adolf Hitler murdered over 11 million people most of them were Jews - why? Hitler sure did show the spirit of brother hood. Once those atomic bombs were dropped on Japan we should have known better to stop this world from collapsing. But it's as if we don't care about who is dying and where. We've giving up, not caring about anything and in many cases wanting more from others.

Look at the two images - Equal?

We are not born equal. Look at the state of this child in Somalia. Do you think that's being born equal? NO! When kids in African nations are sick, they stay sick, unless it's very severe then they might get medicine. They don't get anything, until it's like they might die in a few hours. Children in New Zealand (and other country's) are born in hospitals. However, in countries such as East Timor, Somalia and Syria, children are often born in horrible conditions. They're also not getting the food they need. No one is really getting what they need. Due to the lack of resources. Resources you ask? Well you know, medicine, doctors and hospitals - that kind of thing. We have plenty in New Zealand, but for an example in Somalia it is unheard of. There are only hospitals for those who can afford it. We are not born equal, we as people should know that by now. You can't even walk around your own street feeling safe any more. It's as if you'll never feel safe anywhere.

"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood." Nope not right. We are not born equal. Take somewhere like New Zealand where it's compulsory to go to School. In many East African nations you have to walk at least 7-8 km to get to School. Some children don't get to go to School there, they have to stay home to look after their sick family members. People are shooting each other in both developing and developed nations, and you're saying we should have to act towards the spirit of brotherhood. How is that showing it? There's no way you can like go down the road for a little walk these days without the threat of being beaten up. That's not demonstrating brotherhood, because we can't trust each other in a brotherly way. The world has to put a stop to this. Will we ever learn? We have too!

Food for thought

Today, the class (Room 1), had a nutritionist teach us about healthy eating. Her name was Nova. She told us about the food pyramid, what to eat least, some times and always. The first group vege and fruit that one was easy to guess of course it's best for you... but fruit actually has it's own sugar  that's why juice is sweet sometimes. We also learned the colours of the fruit rainbow so here they are; red, orange, green, purple and white, yellow blue and brown. Nova also said remember five plus a day of fruit and veg. She also said not the same fruit or veg for your five plus a day - mix it up! The class also had to say some bad things to eat.
I said "G-force not healthy!! "
Oh yeah carrots don't help you see in the dark, they only help your eyesight. Next time we are going to learn how to label read. Sounds fun? We've also got some photos, hope you like them. Thanks for reading my blog, bye.

Freedom week!

This week there were two days of fun Friday and Monday. On Monday there was no school, now isn't that cool! This Friday it is spirit day. The theme is sport  so we came dressed as our favourite sports person. I'm just going to wear my soccer stuff. Oh yes, speaking of it I've got the soccer tournament next week so I'm nervous about it! At the moment I'm just sitting in class writing this blog post. I hope by the end of the week I'll have some things to write about. The reason why, you ask? Mr. Sager wants to go out for P.E on Friday and last Friday we were busy checking our blogs, like the one I wrote last week. I don't know why Mr. Sager always wants me to read out my freedom writing paragraph, I get bored of it.

Oh yes, tomorrow is spirit day! So awesome, hopefully sometime in the next week or so we'll get the Duffy Books. Here's the thing about that, at the beginning of each term we can choose four books we would like to read (we usually get 1 or 2 books) and at the end of term they are given out to the kids. Mr. Sager has gotten the class back in to cross country and has figured out what the course is going to look like. When I walked in to class this morning I was amazed and horrified. I was amazed at how many people didn't dress up and horrified the moment I saw Mr. Sager. I knew he was either golf or cricket man? I was freaked out.

So, that is my week! Exciting? Maybe? Oh no, it's freedom writing time.....

Week 4 round-up

Sorry I've been a little lazy, I have been busy throughout the week... Such as, on Monday all the girls who played Netball went to a tournament. It's called Contributing Schools Netball (CSN for short). The games were played at Laird Park. I wasn't quite sure where we were placed (Carlton School I mean). This Wednesday we had Chinese students come to visit our class and they taught us how to say our names and other things in Chinese. I learnt how to say numbers in Chinese and say "My name is" then your name in Chinese. People who are Year 5 or 6 are practising for the Soccer tournament. We have to practise each Wednesday and Friday.

My class have just started a subject called "Freedom Writing", Mr. Sager writes a word on the board and the class writes what we think about it. Most of the Senior school have started a game called Little Alchemy. The class had it as an app. On Wednesday we had a relief teacher, Miss. Massey is her name. Mr. Sager was sad he missed the Chinese Students as he wanted to play kick-ball. Our buddy class Room 11 helped us to start on the linked garden. There are also less Earthquakes after last week. There were over 200 aftershocks. The GONE play is up and running again and the class has an assembly in the next week or so.

Week 1 Term 3

This week we were as busy as bees. We got a lot of work done on Friday (today). Oh yes how silly of me!
Welcome back to a new term of my blog. I've been doing a lot of report writing and recounts I had to write it on the Dance Showcase. We've also been doing H.O.M (Habit Of Mind) about Thinking Interdependently. The class started on a new site called www.digitaldialects.com. It teaches you how to learn an other language our focus is Maori. We wrote a poem about whats under Wanganui and what we think is under Wanganui. The class is also getting chrome books so soon I will have something smaller to write on. This morning mycat tripped me up so now I have a big briuse on my knee. I've also been checking out other blogs, try looking up Two's Terrific Tours, it's a good blog site. So thanks for the read of my blog.

The night of Dance!

Wow! Sorry still a little dazed from last night. Oh let me tell you about that. Well as you probably knew, our whole class has been practising for the up coming Dance Showcase. The School (Carlton) came along to show their dance moves. Oh, and we were first! Everyone was really nervous about it all the girls were wearing really nice dresses too. I was wearing a red hat with a green and white dress. When the class were getting up there were many people staring at you I was really scared it was like a death stare. Mr. Waite boomed his loud voice "First we have Room one". When the music started we did the Charleston and the crowd liked that but they loved it when we did the swing dance. Sophia was spinning round and round with Natalie on her hips. My skirt was going up as I spun I felt like I was going to fly off. People. Were cheering really loudly at Natalie. After that people thought it was over. It wasn't! We started the Maori Battalion March and people just looked at us. We finished with the girls doing Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and it was really fun. Oh yes, the boys had pretend bugles. To end it all up we did a small curtsy and the boys stood to attention. The class sat down after a huge applaud and we watched the rest of the show. I loved it! I wish it could happen again.

These are some pictures on the night.

Centre left: Me and Shiloh are smiling nicely.

This wheels cool week

This week we have been practising the swing dance and "Charleston" routine. For the dance some people have to wear hats (I am one of them). Hopefully soon I will finish my eel report so I can go on to Ki-O-Rahi report. It still looks hard! Tomorrow is spirit day,  "wheels spirit day". We've got an army truck coming along to show us what they do we also have two motorcycles coming. We can bring our scooter, skates, skateboard and our bike I don't think I'll bring anything. Although I can go on the huffy sliders. Thank youfor reading about my week.

Technology week

Today I went to the "tech ex" or Technology Expo. It was really cool we got to see lots of robots. One could even stand on it's hand. There were lots of things I saw three retro games I didn't know the names of as I didn't take that close a look. Grace (my friend) and I took a look and stopped to look at things. There was another room across the hall that had Apple computers and an X-box in it. Grace and I played and took pictures on the computers and it was fun. We also started to play a new game called "pop word" you have to find as many words as possible in three minutes. We are going to our Buddy's class class and we are going to read to them. Room 11 is our Buddy class. In their class we also showed them our "GONE" play I think we acted really well even though we didn't much space. Thank you for reading about my week.

This week

This week we have been learning how to write information reports. At the moment  I am about to write a report draft for the subject is "Eels" (it's hard). The whole class are doing it to improve our report knowledge. We also have some people from Auckland checking out our digital class. We also have our buddy class room 11 coming. There has been a lot of rugby on this week on Wednesday the Carlton ripper rugby team played against the Kai Iwi ripper rugby team. We had to watch the game, it looked hard to play. Well this week we had a lot going on and we finally get to go to the school library. Thanks for listening to my week.

This Museum week

This week it was a long weekend so on Monday we had no school (since it was Queen's Birthday). Today , (7th June 2013) we went to the museum. The trip was to learn about Maori New Year and Matariki. We had 3 activities; one where we went into the cosmodome to see stars. Another activity we did was we sat on red chairs -the room we were in looked like where you watch movies. We watched and learned a little bit about Matariki. We learned a lot of constellations and other things about stars. The last activity was learning how to use maori gardening tools. The ones that we used were called the Kō and Timo. They were very hard to use. After we had tried them we got on the bus and went back to school. Thank you for reading about my week.

My week 7

Lets see, this week I competed in swimming sports. I came 2nd in two events - freestyle and backstroke. I came 1st in breaststroke. I finished some documents on Google docs. I was also selected for the Inter School swimming champs. In 'GONE' Lana has just discovered her power of healing. This story is very exciting.

My freaky week

spiritday 004.JPG

Today was spirit day. Everyone had to dress as their favourite horror character. I was a zombie. Everybody walked around the netball court and showed off their freaky selves! My reading group the Raptor's is practising the first chapter of the book "GONE". It is for a play we are doing. Hopefully we will be able to do it soon. Little kids ran away from us because we were scary at the spirit day. I can tell we were the best class! There  were so many monsters such as zombies, vampires and lots of witches. It was weird there were no mummy's. I was pretty sure that was going to be the most popular. Thank you for reading about my week.Oh yes, I'm the zombie in the green.

My week term two

This week the senior part of Carlton school is going to see a documentary called First position about six ballet dancers that travel the world (I don't know much since I have not seen it yet). For Inquiry we've been
learning about the different movements in dance. That is how our movie links with our Inquiry. The movie was saying you must do this every day and never stop if you want to succeed. You have to keep your focus. It also said follow your dreams, it was very inspiring, I liked it. Thank you for reading about my week.

My week 2 at school

It is the second week of Term two. The class has learnt to do procedure writing this week. ("How to make baked beans on toast".) That is what everyone is writing their procedure on. It is a little hard because not many people know how to. We also have done our IKAN test this morning IKAN is a math test so the teachers can see how good we are at math. A while ago we had our junior buddies coming in to play Daisy Maths. Thank you for reading about my week.

What I learnt this week at school

This week I learnt about the three there's. Their means "We are going to their house tonight." as in ownership or people. There means "Let's go over there." as in place location or direction. The last they're means "They're meant to do their homework!" as in just short for "they are". This skill is going to help me understand which there I am meant to use in my writing and reading.

My week 11

This week I was only at school for two days so I don't have much to write about in this. My week at school was different, Monday till Thursday I was sick. On Thursday I was back at school to find I had lots of work to do. Although I was lucky to find Internet was down till after morning tea yay! After morning tea I came back into class and yet more work finishing to do since Internet was up again.

Ah lunchtime, a time where you can sit and chat with friends. Mr.Sager told me to do work inside to catch up. Oh well time to do some writing. Khan Academy then math in Room two because I wasn't here yesterday. I have no idea what to do! O.K that was not easy this math strategy is weird. Thursday wasn't exactly the best of all days but sounds like a lot happened while I was away
like Duffy books being handed out by Gavin Hill. I'm not sure but I think he was in rugby or something. Well it's Friday right now and so far we have run a block for fitness, pair checked each other for spelling, gone swimming (even though I didn't do those things except pair check spelling) plus eat morning tea not much really. Oh yeah and started drafting our weekly blog. Well thanks for reading  my week, bye.

My week 10 at school

This week the class wrote one word each that makes us tick I chose swimming. We did word study instead
of W.O.T.W (word of the week). I tried butterfly in swimming and it was hard. We did a landscape drawing of our own  Wanganui  from an internet image. The Raptors have been learning to do Cloze activities where there was a word 'embedded' in passage. My reading group's name is the Raptors and has also been doing a play from the first chapter of 'GONE', the book the class is currently reading.

We have only been at school for three days so there is not much to write about. For house colours  (in the classroom) Totara won with 800 points. We went on Khan Academy straight after lunch but later on the internet connection cut off so we all had to silent read.

Thank you for reading about my week.

If I was principal of Carlton School...

If I was principal of  Carlton School I would make a day were it's only for art.Homework would be art
every night and they would show it to there teacher the next day.

When it's Monday the first thing they
would do is go swimming to wake them up from the morning sleep. I would also have a huge in door swimming pool so its nice and warm and there would be a diving board in the deep end of the pool.

At lunch there would be a room where there would be computers to play on and just in case there would be one teacher on duty.

I would be a great principal !
